OTTOMAN SILVER RING WITH ARABIC INSCRIPTION

Ca. AD 1700 - 1800 A silver ring with a broad, slightly tapering hoop supporting a large circular bezel with a raised, moulded rim. The bezel is engraved with an Arabic inscription arranged in two lines within an oval cartouche, enclosed by a continuous undulating border with clusters of punched dots. The sloping sides of the bezel are decorated with scrolling vegetal motifs, and further ornament extends along the shoulders and hoop.
