The firm of Louis Poulsen was established in Denmark in 1874 and was originally meant for importing wine. However, with a growing need for electricity in the beginning of the 20th century, the business started to fabricate tools and lamps instead. The design philosophy of Louis Poulsen is the result of a partnership with one of our time's greatest and most respected designers in the field of lightning, Poul Henningsen. The design style they wanted to achieve was simple, without ornament and that served no other purpose than to provide the room with good and functional light. The lamps of Louis Poulsen are characterised by a clean and discrete design that adapts easily to its environment. Among the classics are the PH and AJ-series.
This June, Denmark's leading auction house Bruun Rasmussen will host an auction featuring world-class mid-century design, as well as the largest collection of Russian art and crafts ever seen at auction in Scandinavia.
