There could hardly have been better news for the state of Saxony so shortly before Christmas: 31 individual objects and complete pieces of jewellery that had been stolen from the Green Vault of the Residenzschloss, a museum in Dresden, three years ago were recovered on the night of 16 December. The public prosecutor's office and the police department announced in a press release that they would be secured on 17 December in Berlin. This positive outcome was preceded by a deal negotiated with the public prosecutor's office and the defence of the suspects, who are currently on trial.

In the early morning hours of 25 November 2019, two masked men smashed several showcases in the precious hall of the Green Vault and stole several sets of historical diamond jewellery. The collection in the Green Vault founded by August the Strong is a world-class collection and forms the heart of the Saxon museum landscape.
The trial led the investigators to a Berlin crime clan, and between 17 November 2020 and 19 August 2021, six suspects were arrested.
