More 450 intriguing lots have been consigned for the antiques, clocks and furniture sale taking place at Ewbank’s, Surrey’s leading international auction house, this month to celebrate the auction house’s 30th anniversary.
The sale is kicking off on 18 March 2020, when jewellery and watches will go under the hammer. Silver and fine art is to follow this on 19 March, and on March 20 auctions for antiques, clocks and furniture will take place.

One of the leading lots is no doubt this Boston model grand piano designed by Steinway. It comes in a high polish ebonised case on square tapered legs with matching duet stool. It was purchased in 1997 and comes with original paperwork and template.

More than sixty Persian and oriental carpets are being offered on 20 March. A huge Heriz red ground carpet, measuring 357cm by 268cm, is one of the stand-out examples.
Heriz carpets are Persian carpets from the area of Heris, East Azerbaijan in northwest Iran, northeast of Tabriz. They are produced in the village of the same name in the slopes of Mount Sabalan and are durable and hard-wearing and can last for generations.

Among the many pieces of antique furniture on sale is this 19th-century teak military secretaire chest, which has a central secretaire drawer, enclosing drawers and pigeon-holes and drawers, which are situated over three long drawers. It was made by Hill & Millard of 7 Duncannon Street, London, and was patented in 1873 and measures 86cm x 99cm x 48cm.

Collectors will likely be intrigued by a cold-painted bronze sculpture from the Bergmann Foundry, of huntsmen and a tiger. It stands at 41 cm tall and bears a number of stamped Bergman marks, and is stamped Geschuzt on base. The Bergmann Foundry was established by Franz Xavier Bergmann in 1900. The Viennese foundry specialised in patinated and cold-painted bronze objets d’art.

Another sculpture, and lot of note, is a marble and alabaster bust entitled Beatrice, by Italian sculptor Giuseppe Bessi (1857-1922). It stands 52cm high and is titled and signed to plinth base.

Another lot of note is a pair of enamel plaques by French artist Jacques Laudin ll (c. 1665-1729). The pair, entitled Jesus Amabilis and Mater Amabilis, are depicted on black backgrounds decorated with polychrome lilies and gold highlighting. Both are titled and signed with monogram ‘JL’ below. Each measures 16cm by 12cm.

A more unusual lot is this 18th/19th-century rectangular lead water tank, with geometric decoration. It has been consigned for sale from a local estate and measures 80 cm by 140 cm by 50 cm.
As a reminder, Ewbank’s 30th-anniversary sale will be taking place across 18, 19 and 20 March. Alongside this sampling, many more intriguing and desirable collectables are waiting to be uncovered.
