Last year, Lufthansa Cargo recorded 7.2 billion tonne-kilometres of transport for a turnover of 3.8 billion euros. With these figures, the subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa AG is one of the leading players in the transport of air freight worldwide. Lufthansa Cargo also regularly transports works of art, which have to be flown from one location to another, especially for exhibitions where art is loaned from one museum to another.

Preserving delicate works of art is a science in itself, even when they are kept in a museum, and when they travel, they are exposed to many dangers, not least because of the non-optimal situations they encounter along the way.
In order to improve this situation in the long term, Lufthansa Cargo opened a new warehouse at Frankfurt Airport on Tuesday. ARTcube offers works of art a professional storage space of 155 square meters as they wait for further transport.
"The modern ARTcube combines optimal handling processes with the highest security measures. This allows us to meet the special requirements of sensitive art objects and offer customised solutions for the storage of Fine Arts in our hub," explains Thomas Rohrmeier, Head of Handling at Lufthansa Cargo. "With this new building, we have further strengthened our focus on the handling of this special product. Curators and art collectors will experience the best storage conditions for their Fine Arts shipments with us."

The ARTcube not only offers an optimal, state-of-the-art lighting and ventilation system, but also specially trained staff who take care of the artworks throughout the handling process. The ARTcube is part of the modernisation of the Lufthansa Cargo Center in Frankfurt, which should be completed by 2029.
