For the week of 30 March to 5 April 2020, guitars were the most searched-for object on Barnebys UK. The musical instrument was also the most popular item on Barnebys US, FR, DE, ES and IT across this period.
Notably, Barnebys SE is the only region without this object as the most searched-for item – one of the few remaining countries that isn’t in a government lockdown.

During more typical times, Barnebys UK would see ‘ring’, ‘diamond’, ‘gems and jewellery’ and ‘rolex’ as the most-searched objects. These items still remain popular, however now only after guitars.
It therefore appears that those who have long-wished to play the guitar have decided now is the ideal time to learn: what better way to whittle away social isolation indoors than by learning a new skill?

According to Express, leading British guitar importer Tom Harrison says he experienced a huge surge in sales week beginning 23 March. He commented: “It’s been an incredible week. It seems so many people who have always wanted to learn to play a guitar but never got round to it due to their busy lives, have suddenly decided this is the moment.”
Perhaps fresh creative talent will emerge from this period and the world will be treated to new songs and voices – and guitar-playing skills.
