With Valentine’s Day only weeks away, it’s time to find a gift for that special someone in your life – or maybe even yourself! Beginning 25 January, Intercollector’s Vintage and Antique Jewellery Sale is the perfect place to start. Featuring over 60 items including pristine earrings, necklaces, brooches and other accessories from the 1800s to the 1980s, there’s sure to be a gift as unique as its recipient.

Dating from the 1880s, this amber necklace is an heirloom in itself. The beads are made of the highly sought after ‘butterscotch’ amber, known for its creamy opacity, and the largest central bead measures 2.5 cm long. The colour of amber can actually change and mature with age, developing from a light milky shade to a deeper, golden hue.

For a dangerously stylish look, these gilt snake earrings from Joseff of Hollywood are the perfect accessory. Suspended from shield-shaped plaques, each finely-scaled serpent swirls down holding a round, ruby-coloured glass bead in its mouth. Complete with the original vintage packaging, one earring is also signed ‘Joseff’ on the reverse.

Suspended on a delicate chain, this beautiful enamel pendant is set apart by gems sparkling in the leaves. Swirling vegetal motifs were a key component of Art Nouveau designs, and the glamourous naturalism is underscored by the addition of two roughly-shaped pearl drops dangling from the bottom edge of the piece.

This incredible gilt brass belt buckle is a prime example of Egyptian revival styles, later popularised by Queen Victoria. The sides of the interlocking buckle depict bust reliefs of Queen Nefertiti and the pharaoh Tutankhamun, surrounded by elaborate geometric designs and stylised papyrus motifs. A strong elastic belt is included, meaning the piece will arrive ready to wear.

Although it is over a century old, this dainty fleur-de-lis pendant remains a timeless design. Amethyst is the birthstone for February, and the richly purple central gem is complemented by seed pearls placed in the silver gilt setting. The symmetry and naturalistic motifs, along with the high quality of workmanship, ensure that this necklace will remain a classic for centuries more.

Made in the 1920s, this Art Deco statement piece features a gilt metal plaque embossed with the image of a woman in an elaborate headdress. Surrounded by filigree, she is further set off by the addition of faceted red gems that match the ruby-coloured glass beads in the necklace.
