The Other Art Fair 2018

Ever since its 2011 launch, The Other Art Fair has become a regular item on the art market’s calendar. Its chosen niche? Young emerging creators and new collectors.

15 March 2018
The Other Art Fair 2018

At the 2016 edition, 60% of its clients were first-time acquirers of art. Such is its success, that The Other Art Fair has gone on to spawn other events in Los Angeles (where this year’s show recently wrapped up), Brooklyn, Sydney, Bristol as well as Melbourne.

Entry, Tommy Clarke

From 22 to 25 March, it shall be back at Victoria House on Bloomsbury Square, London. For this 2018 edition, 120 creators have been selected by a committee of professionals including Rebecca Wilson, head curator at Saatchi Art, a partner of the fair since 2016, along with Dario Illarie, Kurt Beers and Gilda Williams.

Room for Two, Roy’s People

Aimed specifically at first-time buyers, the Art on a Postcard auction is an opportunity for art enthusiasts to acquire work by young creators as well as established artists – among them, Lubaina Himid, 2017 winner of the Turner Prize, an artist with Tanzanian origins whose work offers some insight on colonialism and the slave trade. 2018, incidentally, is a year in which women feature prominently, with over half of the selected artists being female. This is a chance to discover the colourful universe of Morag Myerscough or the sparkling work of Victoria Topping.

Saint Anna, Paul Christener.

As for the men, it’s worth lingering over the natural and fantastical work of Olivier Marc Thomas Léger, winner of the Attenborough Prize in 2014 or explore the narrative world of France-based paper-lover, Nicholas Wood.

St. James's Park, Nicholas Wood

Far from the excesses of contemporary art that sometimes goes beyond the limits of comprehension, The Other Art Fair retains the good taste of fine art.
