Alvar Aalto for Artek, Model 60, Stools

The stackable wooden stool, Model 60, was designed in 1933 for Artek and is today one of Alvar Aalto's most famous works. It took him several years to develop the L-shaped leg, which eventually became a sustainable and modern technical solution that resulted in the creation of several other timeless design classics. The stool has been in production since its launch and has been in MoMA's permanent collection since 1958.
Birger Kaipiainen, Wall plate

During his fifty years at Arabia ceramics, Birger Kaipiainen designed everything from sculptures and tableware to wall reliefs and table clocks. He is best known for his decorative motifs, often of fruits and flowers. Although minimalism was the biggest trend in Finnish ceramics in the middle of the 20th century, Kaipiainen continued to create his romantic works. As a result, his contemporaries called him "the master of ceramics" and "the undisputed ruler of the art of decoration".
Tove Jansson, Glasfabriken i Riihimäki, 1940

Tove Jansson's painting Glasfabriken in Riihimäki (‘Glassworks in Riihimäki’) depicts the craftsmen and artists who worked at Riihimäki glassworks. The glassworks was founded in 1910 and manufactured both simple and high-quality glass objects. Gunnel Nyman, Nanny Still and Helena Tynell were some of the glass artists who worked at the traditional glassworks.
