On 17 May, Lots Road Auctions of Chelsea, London is bringing together outstanding contemporary and designer furniture and works of art from the 1950s to the 21st century. Over 650 lots are featured in their sale, from fine and continental antiques to paintings, jewellery, carpets and rugs and more. While the auction boats luxury, quality and variety all around, it’s the chairs in particular that we’ve got our eye on. Here are our top five from the collection.
5. Bergère

A bergère is an enclosed upholstered French armchair with an upholstered back and armrests on upholstered frames. This variation is an early 20th-century French Louis XVI design painted with parcel gilt with striped upholstery.
4. William Yeoward, Pavane

William Yoward is a Chelsea-based luxury interior design store. Their ‘Pavane’ chair is a dining chair bench-made by hand and each frame constructed of sustainable European hardwood. This lot comes as a set of 10, which, at retail, would cost in excess of £14,000.
3. Established & Sons, Easy

Established & Sons is another Great Britain design store. Their Easy range offers pieces that are polished but welcoming and appropriate for a wide variety of spaces, from the home to meeting rooms, changing rooms and more. While sleek and stylish, this Easy armchair also has comfort at the very heart of its design.
2. Window

The English country house style is one that embraces the philosophy of ‘more is more’. Colour, art, ornaments, pattern, lamps, side tables, piles of books – any feature that gives the feeling of a ‘lived-in’ room is appropriate in this style. A window seat, curled at the corners and with carved decorative finish on its legs, is more than appropriate for such a room and décor.
1. Linley, Aston

The world of Linley is one of sleek luxury, and their Aston chair is of no exception – not to mention, it’s one of their most iconic pieces. Its voluptuous curved form is instantly recognisable, and it wraps and moulds itself around the body for maximum comfort and relaxation. What more could you want? Quantity, perhaps, which is why this lot conveniently comes as a pair.
As a reminder, Lots Road Auctions’ sale is taking place on Sunday 17 May. Hundreds of desirable objects are going under the hammer, including plenty more chairs of ultimate style, comfort and relaxation.
