Great is the fortune of he who possesses a good bottle, a good book, and a good friend.
Divided into two parts, the first dedicated to Italian Wines (lots 1-233), the second dedicated to French Wines, Champagne and Spirits (lots 234-414), Wannenes’ auction catalogue, available online until 18 May, offers a superb selection of the best national and foreign wine production.

Let's start with Italian treasures, with an exciting range of Barolo wines produced by the Giuseppe Rinaldi winery, defined as the ‘Royal Family of Barolo’. Examples of the main types produced by the company, Brunate-Le Coste and Cannubi San Lorenzo-Ravera, are present in the catalogue, with various lots with different vintages available to satisfy every palate.

We remain in the Belpaese for another great wine, Brunello di Montalcino, considered the best-known wine by Italians and appreciated internationally for its complexity, elegance and enormous ageing potential. Wannenes’ catalogue includes bottles of ‘Pegasos’, a name inspired by the symbol of the winged horse, which you can admire on the label.

No self-respecting wine catalogue would be complete without Sassicaia's intense aroma and round, rich taste. Wannenes doesn’t disappoint, offering some truly exciting bottles, which also include fine examples from the 1970s and ‘80s. Considered – together with Ornellaia, Tignanello and Solaia – among the most famous ‘Super Tuscans’ in the world, Sassicaia represents one of the symbols of Italian enological excellence and, like the best wines of great stature, it lends itself very well to ageing, constituting an appetising investment.

The second part of the auction takes us to France and its fine flavours. Some of the lots hail from Romanée-Conti, a well-known vineyard in Burgundy, rich in minerals and well drained, which has produced products of absolute value since time immemorial. The 1966 Grand Cru, which you see in the image above, is one of the illustrious examples in this rich collection.

In the Spirits category we find a jewel by Silvano Samaroli, a revered Scotch whisky bottler: a 1948 Caribbean dark rum bottled in 1991, in its original packaging. Samaroli is probably the most revered independent Scotch whisky bottlers in Italy. Owning one of these bottles means having a product full of history, as well as excellent quality.

Also worth mentioning is the Bowmore 1964, produced in an old Scottish distillery where the brackish breezes and the very particular microclimate (the warehouses are partly located below sea level) give the liqueur the unmistakable taste that made it famous.
Returning to the quote with which we opened this article, we agree with Molìere: that owning a good bottle represents great fortune. Wannenes’ catalogue offers the opportunity to become a little more fortunate and satisfied, in body and in ‘spirit’.
