Wilt Chamberlain, the 13-time All-Star and 4-time MVP player, is best remembered for holding the record for most points scored during a single game. That was in 1962, when Chamberlain represented the Philadelphia Warriors in a game against the New York Knicks. The Warriors won 169-147, with Chamberlain making 100 points.
Chamberlain made 60 points in a single game 32 times during his career, a feat comparable to the all-time greats Michael Jordan and LeBron James, who only made 60 points in a single game five and one time, respectively.

Throughout Wilt Chamberlain’s legendary career, there are two jerseys that stand above all others. The first one is the 100-point jersey from 1962, and the second is the 1972 NBA finals jersey, which was just sold by Sotheby’s for $4.9 million (£4 million). The jersey was estimated to sell between $4 to $6 million and only gained one bid due to the high $4 million starting price.

Chamberlain was traded to the Lakers in 1968 after winning the championship with the Philadelphia 76ers the previous year. The Lakers, previously the Minnesota Lakers, moved to Los Angeles in 1960. Notably, 1972, when the $4.9 million jersey was used, was the first time the Lakers won a championship as the Los Angeles Lakers, making the jersey even more special.

The $4.9 million sale makes the 1972 Chamberlain jersey the world’s third most expensive basketball jersey ever to be sold. The most expensive is Michael Jordan’s 1998 NBA Finals 'Last Dance' jersey, which sold for $10 million, and the second is Kobe Bryant’s 2007-2008 jersey, worn 25 times during his MVP season, which sold for $5.8 million.
