It is not entirely clear why the film industry settled in Hollywood of all places. Important factors must have been the many sunny days in Southern California, which saved on lighting film sets, plus the diverse environment with ocean, mountains and wide plains, which offered many options for backdrops.
The fast growing film industry created and attracted wealth. The decades between 1920 and 1960 are also known as Hollywood's ‘Golden Age’. The demanding film bosses, stars and directors wanted to live according to their fame. The result was a furnishing style that went hand in hand with the golden age of Hollywood and is interpreted in a modern way today.

The origin of the furnishing style known today as ‘Hollywood Regency’ can be found in Art Deco, with its striking use of colour and high-quality materials. However, it was complemented by ornate baroque elements and other luxurious details, mostly gold-coloured decorations, among which the mirror with a sun frame was almost mandatory.
In order to do justice to the light, sun-drenched attitude towards life in Hollywood, colours such as pink, turquoise or yellow were often used. Geometric black-and-white patterns also brought modern elements into the room. A touch of extravagance could be achieved by placing exotic décor and animal fur patterns as well as antique figures and ornaments.
The result was an eclectic style that was lavish but not overloaded and that is still contemporary today thanks to its modern elements.
