Are you, like the illustrator and architect Maja Säfström, fond of old-fashioned dining chairs? If yes, then a great thing about the chairs is that it is so easy to change their fabric – the seat cushion is removable on many variants.

In the slideshow below, Maja shows how in just 30 minutes she refreshes three chairs, and for only about 30 SEK or £2.40 per chair. These are perfect tips for anyone whose chairs need rejuvenating, or for those speculating what to do about existing fabrics’ poor condition.
1. Select the items that need updating

2. Find a fabric that fits

3. Lift off the cushion

4. Pick up your tools (or borrow from a friend if you don't have your own): stapler, pliers and scissors

5. Remove the old fabric

6. Iron and cut to the right size

7. Stretch the fabric and staple around the cushion pad

8. Done!
