RM Sotheby’s and McLaren Racing will present an unprecedented group of three future McLaren competition cars at a dedicated auction in Abu Dhabi on 5 December. Announced during RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale by McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown, the offering spans the team’s Formula 1, INDYCAR, and World Endurance Championship programs, and marks the first time McLaren has made next-generation race chassis available to the public before their competitive debut. The sale coincides with the final Formula 1 race of the season and reflects the current team’s pursuit of motorsport’s Triple Crown: victories at the Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500, and 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The three lots will be delivered in race-ready condition in 2028, each accompanied by extensive access to McLaren facilities, events, and operational support.
2026 McLaren Formula 1 Team MCL40A
(Estimate: $10,000,000–$12,000,000 USD)
The headline lot is the first publicly offered future Formula 1 car. The MCL40A represents McLaren’s 2026 challenger under the sport’s new technical regulations, which will introduce lighter cars featuring active aerodynamics and updated hybrid powertrain components. The car will be delivered with its 2026-specification Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains 1.6-litre hybrid V-6 and will be finished in full season livery.
The winning bidder will take delivery in 2028 of a chassis raced by either Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri during the 2026 FIA Formula 1 season. Until then, McLaren will provide a 2025 non-running show car on lease. Operational use of the MCL40A will be permitted at designated events with support from McLaren and MHPP engineers and in accordance with FIA requirements.
Since the beginning of the turbo-hybrid era in 2014, very few operational Formula 1 cars have entered private ownership, and opportunities for non-professional drivers to experience such recent machinery are even rarer.
As part of the sale, the owner and guests will also be invited to meet Brown, Norris, and Piastri and tour the McLaren Technology Centre, attend the car’s public launch, and receive hospitality at two Grands Prix, including the historic Monaco Grand Prix. Additional access includes selected pit-garage viewing, visits to the Indianapolis 500 and 24 Hours of Le Mans, and a full suite of McLaren Racing experiences.
2027 McLaren United AS LMDh Hypercar

Next in the sale is McLaren’s first LMDh Hypercar, built for its return to top-class endurance racing and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Developed with Dallara and powered by a hybrid twin-turbo V-6, it represents McLaren’s first entry in the premier class since the F1 GTR last contested it in 1995. It also aligns with a wider ambition: McLaren Racing remains one of the few teams to have achieved motorsport’s Triple Crown — the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans — and views its LMDh programme as the route back to that level of competition.
Offered from its debut season in the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship, the car will be delivered in 2028 with its full running equipment and season livery. Owners will be able to drive the car at approved track activities under LMDh regulations, with support provided to ensure proper operation and compliance.
Extras include four VIP tickets to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2026, hospitality at the Indianapolis 500 and Monaco Grand Prix, access to all rounds of the 2027 FIA WEC campaign, a dedicated chassis history book, a signed race suit, and a private tour of the McLaren Technology Centre. The chassis tag will also bear the new owner’s name.
2026 Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team Dallara-Chevrolet DW12

Completing the trio is the Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team's 2026 Dallara-Chevrolet DW12, continuing McLaren’s long history at the Indianapolis 500, which began with the M15 in 1970 and included wins in 1972, 1974, and 1976. Since returning to the series full-time, the team has enjoyed consistent results with Pato O’Ward, including podiums in four of the last five runnings of the 500.
For 2026, Arrow McLaren will field the Chevrolet-powered Dallara DW12 for O’Ward, Christian Lundgaard, and Nolan Siegel. The car offered through RM Sotheby’s will be raced during the 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season, including the Indianapolis 500, before delivery to the winning bidder in early 2028. It will be supplied with its 2.2-litre, twin-turbo V-6 hybrid engine capable of up to 900 hp, along with full running equipment. With McLaren factory support and adherence to INDYCAR and supplier regulations, the car may be used at selected demonstration and track activities.
The lot includes four VIP entries to the 2026 Indianapolis 500 with team garage access, hospitality, and a two-seater ride around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. A Pato O’Ward race suit, a tour of the Arrow McLaren facility, dinner with team leadership, and additional team access complete the package.
For collectors, the Abu Dhabi sale offers access to McLaren Racing during a pivotal phase of its modern programme, presenting a rare opportunity to own a significant piece of the team’s pursuit to replicate its Triple Crown achievement.
The RM Sotheby’s Abu Dhabi auction will take place on Friday, 5 December 2025, at The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The public preview runs from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the auction beginning at 8:00 p.m. Admission to the preview is open to all, while the auction is limited to registered bidders and consignors.
