Lacquer painting is a Chinese invention that was created around 3 000 years ago. The raw material for the coating which was used to decorate furniture and decorative arts came from trees. The trend also reached Japan and later Arabic countries. In the 16th century lacquer ware came to Europe where it was most popular during the 18th century, when Chinoiserie was a huge interior design trend. As the raw materials from trees used for lacquer could not be imported without spoiling, European craftsmen created their own version.


The "dragon-daughter" Longnu is one of the two vital scriptures of Mahayana Buddhism, which are the the "Lotus Sutra" and the "Avatamsaka Sutra."She is described as being full of wisdom and is said to have experienced instant enlightenment.
