The online design auction organised by Bukowskis Helsinki will end on Sunday 24 October. Exciting objects from top designers are currently on offer, including creations by Oiva Toikka, Yrjö Kukkapuro, Philip Arctander, Tapio Wirkkala and Ilmari Tapiovaara. Here are high-flying lots to discover now.
Paavo Tynell for Taito Oy, pair of wall lights, 1940

The Finnish designer Paavo Tynell is represented with around forty lights. Some of our favourites include a copper ceiling light and this pair of custom-made brass wall sconces.
Matti Martikka, rocking chair, second half of the 20th century

The carpenter Matti Martikka, who worked in Karelia (north-western Russia), is known in particular for having carved chairs from tree trunks. This pine wood rocking chair is a good example. Martikka never sold his furniture, but kept it in his house-museum in Joutseno. The four pieces of furniture designed by Martikka presented at Bukowskis come from the museum, which recently closed its doors.
Birger Kaipiainen for Arabia, decorative plate

The catalogue contains several ceramic works by Birger Kaipiainen, including this decorative plate with an iridescent glaze and a floral motif, emblematic of his work. Kaipiainen designed this plate for the Arabia company, where he spent most of his career.
Alvar Aalto for Karhula Glasbruk, vase model 9760

The Savoy vase, also known as the Aalto vase, is undoubtedly one of Alvar Aalto's most emblematic works. Some believe the name refers to the designer's last name, as ‘aalto’ means ‘wave’ in Finnish. In addition to the turquoise model shown here, two versions in transparent and opal glass are also on offer.
Björn Weckström for Lapponia, Collier Kilimanjaro, 1974

A body of thirty works by Finnish sculptor and jewellery designer Björn Weckström punctuates the catalogue. Weckström jewellery is characterised by matte surfaces, semi-precious stones and asymmetric shapes. Weckström's greatest source of inspiration is nature, which can be seen in the Kilimanjaro necklace in sterling silver and acrylic.
Sigvard Bernadotte for Georg Jensen, cocktail shaker, model 819 B, after 1945

We end with this selection with a Sigvard Bernadotte cocktail shaker. Bernadotte designed this elegant sterling silver shaker in 1937 for Georg Jensen, of which he was artistic director at the time. The Swedish designer created a whole series of exclusive utensils that have become true design classics and are still produced today.
