Werther Fever: How Goethe Influenced his Contemporaries

This photo taken on 19 September 2007 shows a drawing from the Codex Gigas (the Devil's Bible) during the opening of an exhibition in the Klementinum, the Czech National Library, in Prague. The manuscript was written in the early 13th century in the Benedictine monastery in Podlazice, Bohemia, and was considered a wonder of the world during the Middle Ages. Plundered from Prague by Swedish soldiers during the Thirty Years War, it will now temporarily return to the city after an absence of more than 350 years. PHOTO AFP/MICHAL CIZEK via Getty Images
